Story idea research

The main thing that inspired the groups story idea is the anime and manga series, Death Note Death Note is a Japanese manga series that was written by Tsugami Ohba and was illustrated by Takeshi Obata and it originally ran from December 1, 2003 to May 15, 2006 for 12 volumes. Later a television anime adaptation aired in Japan from October 3, 2006, to June 26, 2007 and was composed of 37 episodes. The anime was developed by Madhouse and was directed by Tetsuro Araki. The series follows Light Yagami, a smart high school students who later discovers a supernatural notebook from the Shinigami named Ryuk that grants the users the ability to kill anyone whose name and face the user know, as long as their name is written inside. The series centres around Light who feels like he must become a god and attempts of create and rule a crime-freed world where he choose who lives and dies using the notebook by killing off anyone deemed a criminal. He becomes a serial...

Costumes + Props: Edible fake blood

Image
To help make our opening sequence appear more intense, the group decided on incorporating fake blood into it. Although not all films featuring a kidnapping have the hostage being injured, since the main character is being blackmailed with the kidnapping of their friend violence would come into play. Instead of buying fake blood online, it was decided that we make our own fake blood instead using all edible ingredients. "Com Syrup" is not available in the UK, if it was possible to buy it here then the only other way would be to buy it online in which it may not have arrived in time if ordered. Golden syrup will have to be a substitute as the is believed to be the next closest thing. How the final product came out during filming:

Costumes + Props: Making fake bruises with makeup

A fake bruise may be a good idea to be used in our film. The person playing character who gets kidnapped could wear this to help make things appear more realistic.

Colombia Pictures: T hey are of the distributors of 'Trapped'. Columbia pictures is an American production company, film studio and distributor that is currently owned by Sony. Somefilms they have distributed are: Spider Man, Stuart Lit tle 2, Daddy Day Care, Ghost Rider, Ghostbusters (2016)  well known and so on. The company is one of the larger more well known groups who has distributed a variety of well known and popular films. Trapped shares the concept of blackmail using a loved one being kidnapped, and the main character using some form of violence to find them(which the groups story is about). Although this is not always the case since the film shares a few ideas, it has a chance being distributed by them.  If  my groups story was to be distributed they may do so as it seems like the type of film that they'd accept if done right. The groups idea is similar to Trapped which was distributed by them. (There may be others similar as well) Alt...

Film Pitch

Film Pitch (AS LEVEL MEDIA S.) from Yesmihan Akkus

Film Pitch presentation

Image

Target audience profile.

Image
An example taken from a slide of the groups film pitch presentation. As shown it states that the target age group will range between 15 to 25 years of age, since the films genres are action, mystery, psychological and horror those around this age group may prefer to watch it although the topic of the film may capture the interest of the older viewers slightly more. Those under the targeted age are less likely to hold an interest in such films. The main target audience being teenagers and young adults of ages 15 to 25, of both genders. The primary targets are mainly females with the secondary being male, mostly due to the fact that the two main characters are female. The focal point for the race is multi-cultural as the film is set in London which is a city containing multiple different cultures. Demographic: People of groups from C to E, skilled manual workers to those who don't have a job may prefer this compared to those of a high management. For it to app...

Typography

Image
Typography is the style/appearance a given text is presented. The term applies to how in which the style, arrangement and appearance are placed, with multiple different combinations and styles the way in which the text looks can vary. Typography is an important art, especially when used in films. The way in which the text is presented often helps communicate feeling and tone, typographers must be able to ensure that the style of the work is suitable for the film or text as this helps to convey what the mood of it will be. For example if the words were shown to be jagged or somewhat transparent then it may suit an action and/or horror rather than a romance and/or comedy.  The design must also be able to suit not only the genre but the plot as well (in most cases) for example if the given text was about gangs and such other related themes then a 'fancy, curly' font won't be the best fit, or a presentation containing brightly lit colours would ...

Film Idea

Equilibrium: Set in a school in a city the main character is the cliché 'different' character, this character prefers to try avoid forming bonds or friendships so the state of normality would be with them being shown spending time alone and it is clear that they can be considered the different one. The main character has a friend who hangs around them despite the various attempts being pushed away earlier on. Disruption: The main character's friend is kidnapped and is shown to be disturbed upon hearing about the news. Recognition of the disruption: After hearing of the news they feel the need to search for their friend by using the internet since they feel that nobody else will help quickly enough and also since they believe that the kidnapping is related to a problem occurring online. Attempt to repair disruption: The main character then spends the next few years searching for their friend and learning to hack, hoping that it will help them find t...

Contemporary vs Older

Film: Mission Impossible 4 Ghost Protocol (2011) Genre: Action, Thriller, Adventure, Spy Film: The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) Genre: Drama (song, visuals) Title sequences gone far in the way they have been presented. Earlier sequences mostly revealed the names of important crew members and actors, later sequences now sometimes use them to show part of the upcoming story and set enigmas. Over the years the ones we see today are said to have been built from "se7en" 's title sequence, since Kyle Cooper the creator of the sequence was said to have broken the mould in the creation of the sequence.  The title sequence for Se7en (1995) uses close up shots throughout. The type of font used for any text shown is unsteady, it moves slightly in a from ranging from a slight shake to overlapping to flashing up to being flipped backwards quickly and so on.  Each close up is only on screen for a moment but the images shown leave the audience in questioning a...

Genre film case studies

Image
-- The genre of film I would like my group to create would be either possibly action,  thriller, mystery and possibly horror. Iconography- Example 1 : Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol-  Climbing on Burj Khalifa Setting- In this the setting shows a large city which is full of people being seen from a tall building, the use of heights creates anticipation and tension as one wrong move could be dangerous. Mise-en-scene conventions often shown in action films are used in this extract the use of moments that help cause anticipation and interest as although the building is seen as nice, climbing it would not be a desired choice. The pleasant looking building becomes seemingly terrifying. Characters-  The scene starts with the main character walking towards where the window which has been removed, from this the genre of thriller comes into place. He then begins climbing the building which to most people is a terrifying idea, especially when he is...

Title Sequence: Title orders (In common ordering)

Image
Title sequences usually have a specific order in which the titles are shown, usually starting with the distribution and production companies which tells the viewer who produced and/or who distributed the film. These can be considered one of the more important roles as these companies are part of the main contribution for the possible success of the film. Some companies will/may attract a larger audience as people may have expectations for certain companies. Producer/director- The producer is the person responsible for the financial coverage, with the director controlling the making of the film and supervising the technical crew and actors. Directors can also be responsible for the films success since the have more control over how things will run. Starring Actors- The lead actors, which are usually the main characters. Films name/title (sometimes shown with the names of the production/ distribution companies)         ...
