Evaluation (under editing)

4- The main focus here was to introduce the story to the viewer and give them a rough idea of what is happening. The plot is partly established through the use of quick cuts of the kidnapping/ kidnapper and news reports which follow after, with these we can quickly see that something is wrong. With the presence of news reports it becomes clear that the occurring problem large, which is also noticeable through the presence of reports in other languages . At the end of the sequence the main protagonist is shown looking at her laptop, watching a video the antagonist sent her. From this the audience can guess where the story is going and what may happen as well as what the plot of the story is. From the start of the opening title sequence the music used is already giving of a suspenseful feel as well as also creating a sense of a soon approaching danger, threat and problem from within the audience watching. At the start of the music used the audience or viewer is in some way A brief...

Evaluation of 'Conscience Revenge' Opening Sequence

Image
1- Brief entry The class has had to make an opening title sequence that's at least  two minutes long. My groups sequence it named 'Conscience Revenge' a psychological horror. The psychological genre can be interesting to the group members,  the characters in this are experiencing psychological problems throughout which is partly be the reason for the sequence's name. Conscience: "a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to one's behavior." The title was given its name due to what happens in the story, the protagonists sense of morals lead them to commit certain actions as a form of revenge. In the opening sequence the main character, a college student has her best friend kidnapped. The kidnappers send her a video of her friend while threatening to kill her if she fails to comply with the order of handing over her special notebook. The idea was inspired by an anime named 'Death Note an anime series tha...

Story idea research

Image
The main thing that inspired the groups story idea is the anime and manga series, Death Note Death Note is a Japanese manga series that was written by Tsugami Ohba and was illustrated by Takeshi Obata and it originally ran from December 1, 2003 to May 15, 2006 for 12 volumes. Later a television anime adaptation aired in Japan from October 3, 2006, to June 26, 2007 and was composed of 37 episodes. The anime was developed by Madhouse and was directed by Tetsuro Araki. The series follows Light Yagami, a smart high school students who later discovers a supernatural notebook from the Shinigami named Ryuk that grants the users the ability to kill anyone whose name and face the user know, as long as their name is written inside. The series centres around Light who feels like he must become a god and attempts of create and rule a crime-freed world where he choose who lives and dies using the notebook by killing off anyone deemed a criminal. He becomes a serial...

Costumes + Props: Edible fake blood

Image
To help make our opening sequence appear more intense, the group decided on incorporating fake blood into it. Although not all films featuring a kidnapping have the hostage being injured, since the main character is being blackmailed with the kidnapping of their friend violence would come into play. Instead of buying fake blood online, it was decided that we make our own fake blood instead using all edible ingredients. "Com Syrup" is not available in the UK, if it was possible to buy it here then the only other way would be to buy it online in which it may not have arrived in time if ordered. Golden syrup will have to be a substitute as the is believed to be the next closest thing. How the final product came out during filming:

Costumes + Props: Making fake bruises with makeup

Image
A fake bruise may be a good idea to be used in our film. The person playing character who gets kidnapped could wear this to help make things appear more realistic.

Shot list

Shot List: 1. An extreme close up shot of the second protagonist's face as their eyes gaze at both sides (x2) 2. Recce

Image
Possible areas: Here are the photos taken for possible filming areas, They are in an area near one of the group members which makes them quick and easy to get to. These may fit to our opening sequence, since it has a kidnapping scene take place and places like this could be ideal for filming such situations.   There is also the garage of one of the group members which will be used for another part of the opening sequence, where one of the characters will be held hostage and the threatening video message will be made.  The last part of the sequence will be filmed in one of the group members bedrooms, partly because they are acting as the main character. This will also make things easier for the group and/or be better to work with.

Production Journal

The group has now gone out and done the recce we can start to piece together where things will happen. The setting/area chosen is close to one of the group members homes and they are quick and easy to get to. The smaller river and the larger river may suitable for the sequence as it part of it features a kidnapping scene, which would be fitting with the type of area. The smaller river has a more closed off feel/look to it while the bigger, having more space is more open. We'll be using a garage for one part and a bedroom for the end of the sequence. With the recce done we can now move onto the shot list of the various shots that the group would like to try to achieve, the list will be in the same order as the storyboard and order of filming process. We can then start looking for any necessary props and costumes, which were also slightly mentioned in one of the group discussions.

First film pitch presentation- Feedback

Image
Overall the group received decently good feedback with the expected mentioning of what needs to be improved. Two out of the three have agreed/mentioned that the audience profile was one of the elements that had worked. The researched products as well as the film idea and title were also considered working elements and the messages and use of the sketchbook being used as iconography were seen as a good idea.   Things believed to be in need of development were story idea/narrative seeing as they were stated to be confusing and needed to be made clearer, more research could be presented from the anime/manga genre along with the explanation of how the generic codes and conventions occur in the opening.   Things said not to have worked were the genre hybrid- action. only stated on one sheet.   With this feedback the group has begun working  to improve the presentation based on the things stated to be in need of development and what didn’t work. ...

Updated Storyboard

Image
Due to some earlier miscommunication between the group the storyboard had to be changed, so it now there is a new storyboard that the group and I worked together to create.

Production Journal

The storyboard had to be changed due to miscommunication with a group member, so the group has had to come up with a new idea and storyboard. After we finish this we'll begin looking at possible places to film and do a recce, where we have chosen a day where we'll all go out and look at places. So once we find an ideal/suitable place we'll take pictures and sort out where each part of the sequence will happen.

Colombia Pictures: T hey are of the distributors of 'Trapped'. Columbia pictures is an American production company, film studio and distributor that is currently owned by Sony. Somefilms they have distributed are: Spider Man, Stuart Lit tle 2, Daddy Day Care, Ghost Rider, Ghostbusters (2016)  well known and so on. The company is one of the larger more well known groups who has distributed a variety of well known and popular films. Trapped shares the concept of blackmail using a loved one being kidnapped, and the main character using some form of violence to find them(which the groups story is about). Although this is not always the case since the film shares a few ideas, it has a chance being distributed by them.  If  my groups story was to be distributed they may do so as it seems like the type of film that they'd accept if done right. The groups idea is similar to Trapped which was distributed by them. (There may be others similar as well) Alt...

Group meeting discutions 2

At the start of this discussion the first thing mentioned was possible effects that could be added to the sequence, which is followed by with a suggestion for the possible use of a poor quality/older camera which could be used in our sequence. This would be done to create the effect of a character being filmed through a phone or cheap camera which will be used in the sequence at some point. This was then followed by the mentioning of possible camera shots that could be used starting with a close up of one character looking towards different sides which changes to them looking at other characters from their point of view. We then further talk about possible effects and the use of the fake blood with another mentioning of possible camera angles as we then begin to talk about possible props- weapons. This is followed by the group talking about how many characters/actors will be needed where it ends.

Target audience profile.

Image
An example taken from a slide of the groups film pitch presentation. As shown it states that the target age group will range between 15 to 25 years of age, since the films genres are action, mystery, psychological and horror those around this age group may prefer to watch it although the topic of the film may capture the interest of the older viewers slightly more. Those under the targeted age are less likely to hold an interest in such films. The main target audience being teenagers and young adults of ages 15 to 25, of both genders. The primary targets are mainly females with the secondary being male, mostly due to the fact that the two main characters are female. The focal point for the race is multi-cultural as the film is set in London which is a city containing multiple different cultures. Demographic: People of groups from C to E, skilled manual workers to those who don't have a job may prefer this compared to those of a high management. For it to app...

Production Journal- Group meeting discutions

In the audio the group is talking about the storyboard and possible story ideas as well as props, possible effects, setting and such. In the start we was mainly talking about darker places that could work for the first part of the scene and possible ways to meet up outside of school. After we're talking about camera and sound effects also how each character is shown and what they are doing. We then talk how we are going to involve certain props and a little bit about possible roles.

Idea Storyboard

Image
This is the storyboard containing the idea for the film, this is the groups first idea so there may also be changes later on to small details or the entire thing. I do have another idea for an opening sequence, so there's a chance I'll look at that later on. If the rest of the group is okay with it there is a chance they might prefer that idea as it may make more sense compared to this one.   The group I am in only has three people, which won't be enough so I will ask some friends if it is possible for them to fill some extra roles.
