Opening Title Sequence- Code and Conventions

The purpose of an opening title sequence is to introduce the audience to the film and it's directors, producers and distributors as well as important actors and a few of the more important crew members. This can set the mood of the film and suggest possible genres while some sometimes setting possible enigmas for the story line, which may be revealed later.
They help the audience understand the the genre and introduce them to key characters while suggesting a possible mood to the film.
Opening sequences are meant to be the introductory part of the film they are there to reveal small parts of information to the viewer and possibly build an interest in the film.

Through the introduction of this key information a viewer may begin to understand or learn about the characters introduced and possibly how the film may or may not go.
While an interest is being build they are also learning what type of film it may be.
